Public Nuisance & The White Stripes

The White Wall Triple Decker Record

In 2010, Jack White invented the Triple Decker Record—a 7" single sealed inside a 12" album.

A couple of years later, while working for Jack, I designed the second and only other Triple Decker Record for Public Nuisance's album 'Gotta Survive.' This special edition includes an exclusive White Stripes 7" inside. Its design resembles a whitewall tire with a hubcap to match Third Man Records' Rolling Record Store.

Sealed within the 12" record is a 7". To complement the outer record’s design and add a surprise element, the label of the 7" shows a tire missing its hubcap.

This design was inspired by a photo of Public Nuisance stealing hubcaps from a car with whitewall tires and by the distinctive wheels of Third Man Records' Rolling Record Store.

The White Wall Triple Decker Record exemplifies how simple yet thoughtful design can add depth and narrative. Engaging in innovative projects like this allows me to explore the intersection of visual art and music, with the hope of enriching the way fans experience an album.
