Chicago Park District

The #1 Municipal App

I pitched the concept of an event listings app to the Chicago Park District, transforming how residents discover local events, which were previously available only through printed listings. I then led the team in developing and deploying the app.

With over 1,000 free events annually, the Chicago Park District needed a simple way for residents to find events by date, location, and interest. The result was MyChiParks, an app now boasting over 145,000 users and holding the title of the most downloaded municipal app in the nation for five consecutive years.

To keep the app fresh and engaging, its design elements, including the icon, change seasonally.

We introduced Luna the Owl, as owls are a symbol of a healthy park environment, as the app’s mascot.

MyChiParks not only connects residents with their community but also reinforces the value of public spaces in urban life. Its ongoing success demonstrates the power of thoughtful design and innovation in enhancing civic engagement.
